Obama’s Weekly Address Begins

November 15th, 2008

For the first time, the weekly Democratic address has been released as a web video. It will also continue to air on the radio.

President-elect Obama plans to to publish these weekly updates through the Transition and then from the White House.

Today’s address from the President-elect concerns the current economic crisis:

What Now?

November 5th, 2008

By Tom Hall

Take a break. It’s been a loooonnnggg campaign. Reading the emails and news articles, checking websites, sending corrections to the smear-watch sites, volunteering at the phone bank, and all those arguments around the office. Especially with those smarmy lowlifes in the accounting and legal departments, as if their fancy educations made them smarter than the rest of us.

And what about those guys and bimbos at the gym? They think working out makes them smart? Drinking that Smart Water didn’t help them form coherent arguments. Yeah, take a break. You’ve earned it. You need a rest after months of this political noise, and watching your 401K drop like pieces of a blown-up space shuttle.

Take a break. Let Obama carry the load for a while now. He wanted the job, now let him do it. He’s got the people. What have they got to do, after all, now that the campaign is over?

What indeed! The President-elect has to start work now on fixing the mess created by the old administration. Our economy is in shambles and is sinking further every day. Most economists think that the housing crisis will grow worse as more people are laid off and can’t pay either mortgage or rent. The colonial government we installed in Iraq is demanding that we leave. Our “friends” in Pakistan are demanding that we finally begin to treat them as if they were sovereign. And polar bears are going extinct faster than Todd Palin can shoot them.

A New Day Dawns

November 3rd, 2008

By Peter Calvet

We are finally poised for a New Beginning. Although the New Beginning will begin in our country, it will not be limited to our country. In fact it will be a new beginning for the entire world.

Franklin Roosevelt ushered in the New Deal which saved our country from anarchy, totalitarianism of the right and left. Our “anything goes” form of capitalism failed, and we were on the verge of a world-wide economic melt-down. Although our current situation is not quite as dire as the Great Depression, we are entering into a sort of twilight zone of economic uncertainty coupled with a legacy of an erosion of basic human rights due to our collective overreaction to the 9/11 terrorist attacks (it wasn’t just George W’s fault). The combination of an erosion of freedom at home with unfettered greed among the power elite has led us to a very toxic country which no longer serves the interest of the American population and has become generally reviled all over the world.

This situation cannot be remedied by mere “reform.” It especially can’t be fixed by “reformers” who by their own admission have bought into the general philosophy that has brought us all to this unfortunate point. Whether you believe that John McCain is sincere or not is not even very important. What is important is that he thinks that a capitalist system with little or no regulation is the answer to our current meltdown. If he does not understand the problem how can he find the solution? McCain is also convinced that the solution to world terrorism is more military conflicts that are unsustainable over time.

Wassup, Obama

November 3rd, 2008

The 2008 US Presidential election will be the YouTube election. Parody is always hot on YouTube. That’s why this Obama campaign ad, poignantly parodying Budweiser’s classic Wassup ad from eight years ago, is a stroke of pure genius.

This hilarious yet heartwarming spoof has racked up over two million views in its first five days. Fully leveraging the shortform nature of viral video, the ad concisely strikes at multiple hot button issues in a span of just two minutes.

If Obama can run his country as cluefully as he runs his campaign, perhaps America can relax enough to watch a game and have a Bud again.

Obama on Tech

November 3rd, 2008

Most politicians wouldn’t bother with geek stuff — but only two days before the US Presidential election, Barack Obama comes out with an ad about his science and technology policy.

It’s composed of clips from a talk at Google, and the search giant even gets special mention. That’s not surprising, considering that Google CEO Eric Schmidt could well become America’s first CTO under the Obama administration.

It’s a Web exclusive, too. That makes sense: this tech stuff would just intimidate couch potatoes, and most of the science nerds are at their computers anyway.

On a side note, posting comments about legislation before it’s signed could produce the most epic threads ever.

Palin’s “terrorist” comment opens door to questions about McCain & Vietnam War criminal who executed POWs, critics charge

October 29th, 2008

Westside Gazette

Recent comments by Presidential VP Candidate Sarah Palin against Sen. Barack Obama are sparking outrage among Democrats nationwide. Addressing supporters at a Colorado fundraiser last Saturday, Palin stated, “We see America as the greatest force for good in this world. Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”

What the Alaska governor was referring to was a New York Times article posted Oct. 4, 2008 that discussed the past affiliation of Barack Obama and Bill Ayers, 63, one of the founders of Weather Underground, a violent anti-Vietnam War group responsible for several bombings in the ‘70s (some of which resulted in fatalities), including assaults on the U.S. Capitol building and the Pentagon.

Despite the fact that Obama was a child at the time of the turbulent Vietnam era and later disavowed Ayers’ violent past, efforts are underway to smear him for his past association with the former Weatherman whose charges were dismissed in 1974 due to illegal wiretapping by the FBI. Ayers has since denounced violence, is a professor at the University of Illinois (Chic-ago), and a staunch supporter of education reform.

Exposing the REAL John McCain

October 28th, 2008

By Donna Perdue

We’ve heard so much about Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers’ relationships with Barack Obama. John McCain and Sarah Palin have become pros at dishing out Rove-esque smears.  It’s enough to piss off anyone who’s done their homework and knows there’s absolutely NO substance to speak of. Believe me, as a prior Hillary Clinton diehard, I dug deep into Barack Obama’s background…just itching to find something!

In response to the attacks, Obama, for his part, has simply taken the high road.  It’s amazing that he won’t address some of the obvious crap out there about McCain.

Well, I’m not on the campaign’s payroll, so with 5 days remaining till Election Day, I offer the following for anyone who wants to reaffirm just why adulterous John McCain is a shitty choice for President of the USA.

It’s perhaps the most controversial election message of 2008. It examines the fundamental issues of fairness and the threats to national security from presidential candidates that fail to adequately disclose aspects of their pasts that might compromise their integrity in office, or make them prone to possible blackmail or extortion by a foreign entity hostile to the US.  Vietnam Vets Against John McCain is a must see website.

Then ask yourself or better yet, ask John McCain why he used his influence (and that of his Admiral Daddy) to have his POW record permanently sealed from public scrutiny.  This Marine, for one, would love to hear the answer!

Down Ballot Dems Grab Obama’s Coattails

October 24th, 2008

How smart!  Perhaps no article underscores Obama’s strength right now than this Wall Street Journal piece: Down-ballot Dems are looking to grab on to a piece of Obama’s perceived coattails.

Marines and Military Families Say NO to John McCain

October 24th, 2008

I am so proud of my fellow Marines…for their service during this turbulent time in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I am proud of all servicemembers…men and women who simply go where they are told and work to complete the mission, whatever that is.

The Department of Defense announced yesterday the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Stacy A. Dryden, 22, of North Canton, Ohio, died Oct. 19 from injuries sustained in a non-hostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq. She was assigned to 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, Calif.  SSgt Diane Durden is the Casualty Assistance Officer who had to tell the Marine’s mother the news.  Durden’s duties entail helping the family with funeral details.

The incident is under investigation. For additional background information on this Marine, news media representatives may contact the I Marine Expeditionary Force public affairs office at (760) 763-4675.

And the rest of us really need to question AGAIN the mentality behind supporting a war in Iraq. $700Billion dollars has been pumped into a country who may appreciate our money but doesn’t want us occupying their land. It’s a senseless war that diverted efforts from capturing the real culprits Osama bin Laden and Al Quaeda. Bring our troops home and stop spending our tax dollars in Iraq! Vote Barack Obama November 4!

The Truth About Acorn
